Aegis annoying gap before apostrophes

I work with Aegis subtitle software and found it always puts a space in front of apostrophes after exporting as an srt so that it looks like this: can 't instead of can't, won 't instead of won't, etc. I've noticed this in a few other posters files too regardless of what player I use and it's distracting to me and probably you all as well. I'm on a Mac and as a workaround I've been putting a backtick ( aka grave accent) where an apostrophe should be, then I'd open the srt with text edit, do a "find and replace", ' for , then re-save and the gap is mysteriously gone when played with a video. I've searched the internet for a reason and can't find anything about it anywhere. Anybody know something about this?
